Rowan County Historical Society
The Rowan County Historical Society, P. O. Box 60, Morehead, KY 40351, meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the Rowan County Public Library on First Street (formerly Railroad Street). The genealogy group meets from 10 a.m.-12 noon every third Saturday of each month at the same location. Dues are $6.00 per year per individual, $10 per family, or $100 for a lifetime membership. We recently completed our research of over 375 cemeteries in and around Rowan County and have created a five-volume book set (also on CD). Each book is $75 plus $15 S&H. The CD is $36 (includes S&H). We are also taking orders for a new pictorial history book, which is expected to be published sometime this year (2001). The book is priced at $39.99 plus $5 S&H. Auburn Historical Society - Logan County
The AHS meets monthly in the Auburn Library and Museum building that it owns. Meetings are every first Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Museum located at 433 W. Main St., Auburn. Membership dues are $10.00 per year. A newsletter is included in the membership. A historical society Rootsweb mailing list is in the works for all history, folklore and genealogy of the Auburn/Logan Co. area. The public is encouraged to attend, join and become active in the Society. A major project of the AHS is the planned restoration and furnishing of the old Greenwood Schoolhouse that was moved from the Simpson Co. line to the AHS property at 433 W. Main. This schoolhouse will eventually become part of the village being recreated at this site that will resemble what early Auburn looked like 100 years ago. Operating in a museum, located at 78 Miller's Creek Road, Van Lear, KY, this historical site works to preserve the town known as Van Lear. A membership cost 10.00/year and they hold an annual celebration for their town. Grayson County Society
The Grayson Co. Historical Society meets in and owns the historic Jack Thomas House on East Main Steet, in Leitchfield, Ky. The house is open Tuesdays through Fridays - 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There are three general meetings a year - the second Tuesday of March, June and October at 7:00 p.m. The society's board meets monthly. There are several publications for sale including the new history book "Historical Sketches and Family Histories of Grayson Co., Ky." and three volumes of the Grayson Co. Cemetery Books. Jessamine County Historical & Genealogical Society
The Jessamine County Historical and Genealogical Society (JCHGS) was organized in January 1949 by a small group of people dedicated to preserving the heritage of a history rich county. After five decades of work on saving historical sites, revitalizing cemeteries, hosting two history fests, reenacting a 1794 Fourth of July celebration at Col. William C. Price's home and pushing for the passage of HB 521 in the 2002 Legislative Session, the JCHGS is on the Web.
