Old Kentucky Entries and Deeds is a complete index to the earliest land records of Kentucky, alphabetically arranged under the names of the grantees, giving the number of acres, dates, locations, and page references in the original records, which are now housed in the Land Office in Frankfort. The bulk of the work is devoted to the early Fayette, Lincoln, and Jefferson County records which were turned over to Kentucky by Virginia in 1792. The Bingham Family of Southeast Kentucky by Stephen Bingham and Hermina Brickmeier is now available. The 1,200 page hardbound volume traces the descendants of the five known children of John A. Bingham and Deborah Phipps. It identifies 21,451 direct descendants and 10,725 spouses, and it traces the family through 11 generations. Old Kentucky Talk: A Collection of Words, Expressions, and Folklore From the Old Days of the Commonwealth has just been completed by a son of Barren County, Clayton Gooden, with the help of his own son, David (who was born in Lexington). The book includes language, customs, and stories about the early cultures of Kentucky, passed down through the generations of the authors' ancestors and illustrated with classic engravings, some of which are quite unusual; for example, a 1784 map of Kentucky by pioneer cartographer, John Filson, and a late 1880s view of the construction at the entrance to Mammoth Cave. Estill County, Kentucky
The Estill County Historical and Genealogical Society has published a new book entitled Memorial To The Veterans Of WWII From Estill County, Kentucky. The book contains over 730 photos of Estill County's WWII veterans, over 150 pages of clippings taken from the old Estill Herald, Irvine Times, and other newspapers; many personal remembrances of the war years are recalled, plus many other noteworthy news items, pictures and memorabilia. Each veteran's picture gives his name, plus the name of his father and mother (including her maiden name). We believe this book will be an asset both historically and genealogically as hundreds of names of Estill County families are contained within its fully indexed 416 pages.
