Letters To The Editor

Each month, The Kentucky Explorer magazine receives literally scores of letters from our faithful readers. Whenever possible, we try to publish as many of them as possible in the 12 pages we have set aside for "Letters to the Editor."

Here are actual letters from June 2012

Normal School In Louisa
Dear Editor:
I would like to respond to the photo on page 79 of the April 2012 issue of The Kentucky Explorer.
Indeed there was a teacher training or normal school in Louisa, Lawrence County, Kentucky.
My grandfather, Noah Slone, attended that school about that time.
If anyone has any information to share about this school, it would be appreciated.

Article Will Be Treasured
Dear Editor:
I really appreciate The Kentucky Explorer publishing my article, which appeared on page 22 of the April 2012 issue. I am getting calls from family and friends. I know the article will be treasured by future generations.
I would like to make one correction to the article. It was written by my daughter, Wanda Gilliam Watts, as I told the story. I also have a daughter, Linda Gilliam Hibbitts, and a son, Coy.

Hickory-Bottomed Chairs
Brought People Together
Dear Editor:
I would like to extend my gratitude for The Kentucky Explorer's network of the past.
I was recently reading an article about the good, old hickory-bottomed chairs and how uncomfortable they could be, yet they always brought people together.
I am sitting in a recliner and grateful for it.
Thanks for all the hard work of editing and publishing.

Looking For Old Regular
Baptist Association Minutes
Dear Editor:
I am looking for any Old Regular Baptist minute books. The older the minute book, the better.
If anyone has any of these books they would like to part with, I would be more than happy to get them.
I would be willing to pay for or reimburse any postage and handling, if necessary.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me in the past. I appreciate it.

Pumpkin/Gourd Seeds Wanted
Dear Editor:
I really enjoy The Kentucky Explorer. My wife and I read it from cover to cover.
I advertised bean seeds in the magazine and sold all of them. I had about 150 responses.
Now I'm looking for Kentucky field pumpkin seeds. This type of pumpkin grows long and lays on its side. It is light orange in color.
Also, I would like to have some baby bottle gourd seeds.
