Old Regular Baptist Meeting at Brushy Creek in Pike Co., Ky., 1946
Mintie Blackburn, P. O. Box 172, Belfry, KY 41514, shares this photo and writes: "This group is the Sardis Association of the Old Regular Baptists at the Big Branch Church in Pike County, Kentucky. The Big Branch Church held services in the Big Branch schoolhouse on the third Saturday and Sunday of each month. At that time, my dad, J. L. Nichols, was the church clerk, serving from 1932-1982. E. S. Coleman from Hardy, Kentucky, was moderator from 1936, until he was killed in the coal mines in 1947. In 1946 the members of the church, with the help of the neighbors, built the stand for the Sardis Association. We enjoyed sitting on the boards and logs and hearing the old time songs as shown above. The group's singing could be heard through the hills of Brushey Creek, along with the sisters shouts of prayers to the dear Lord. The Sardis Association met at the Big Branch Church in 1899, 1906, 1913, 1917, and 1946. The association bought a large building on Brushy Creek so it could have a good place for a lunch room and plenty of parking. The Big Branch church built a nice church house in 1952."
