Sheryl Hensley of Middletown, Ohio, is in the process of publishing a book regarding Conway/Ballard genealogy. She is interested in the identifications of all the people in this photo that will appear in the book. The photo was obtained from her cousin in Kentucky, and Sheryl has successfully acquired some of the identities (see letter below). She is asking for our readers' help.
Ralph D. Kirkpatrick, 7552 S. 350 E., Jonesboro, IN 46938, shares this photo of himself (born February 10, 1930) and an unknown young lady. The photo was taken ca. 1947 in Breathitt County, Kentucky, somewhere near Mt. Carmel. If any reader recognizes the young lady, or knows the exact location the photo was taken, feel free to contact Ralph.
This Kentucky Utilities Company truck delivered ice in Glasgow, Barren County, Kentucky, ca. 1930. The truck was parked on the square in Glasgow next to George J. Ellis' store, to the left. The magnificent 125-room, three-story Crittenden Springs Hotel located near Marion in Crittenden County, Kentucky, was a popular resort beginning in 1887. It was constructed by the Crittenden Sulphur Springs Company. The resort, pictured in 1909, flourished until 1910, when nearby mining operations caused the spring water to disappear. In 1919 the hotel was closed, torn down, and a private home was built with the hotel lumber on the site. (Photo courtesy of Brenda Underdown.)
Hiram Flint, Co. D, 45th Regiment Kentucky Infantry, was at the Union Camp on Ivy Point at Salyersville, Kentucky, on November 30, 1863, when the camp was raided by Capt. Peter Everett, CSA. He escaped into the woods that day. Front row, l-r: Hiram Flint (1842-1911) holding his granddaughter, Thelma Flint Allen (1901-1993), daughter of Win Flint (1880-1959) and Nannie McFarland Flint (1881-1972); Elizabeth Flint Patrick (1834-1908) sister of Hiram Flint, wife of Thomas Calvin "Caz" Patrick, a Union soldier of 14th KY Volunteer Infantry, Co.
