Each month, The Kentucky Explorer magazine receives literally scores of letters from our faithful readers. Among those letters we often find queries, ranging from requests for words to songs and poems to trying to locate former classmates and military buddies of long ago. Here are a few queries from our May 2002 issue: The Mortons of Kentucky Dear Editor: I am looking for any information on James Morton, who was born in 1828 in Madison County, Kentucky, or any other Mortons. His parents were Richard and Mary Elizabeth Reynolds Morton. If you have any information, please contact me. Emma Breshears Needs Family Tree Quilt Pattern Dear Editor: I am looking for a Family Tree quilt pattern. If anyone has one and would like to share it with me, please contact me. I'd really appreciate it. Vergie Crompton Needs Bacon Creek, Holly Marsh, and West Corbin School Photos Dear Editor: I'm trying to locate any photos of Bacon Creek School from the early 1920s. My great-aunt, Mattie Alsip, had one with my dad, Steve Wells, in it. I'd love to get a copy of that one. I'm also looking for photos of the Holly Marsh School at Spruce Creek on old U. S. 25W, which is no longer there; and a photo of the old West Corbin Grade School, a four-room school on West Corbin Hill, from any of the years between 1959 and 1963. Erlene Watts Looking For Asbury Johnson Book Dear Editor: Do you have any idea where I can find a copy of the 1990 book The Early Families Of Buckhorn by Asbury Johnson? This was written while he was at Vanderbilt. If any of your readers know where I can find one, please contact me. Janice Pratt |
