Here are a few things for sale by readers from our April 2002 issue:
Yearbooks For Sale
Floyd County Schools, 1937-1972. Barbara Bolen Porter, an alumnus of Garrett High School in Floyd County, has compiled a collection of annuals for all individual Floyd County Schools from 1937-1972. The only annuals missing are for the war years of 1943-1946. Many of these reproductions look better than the originals.
The Garrett High School collection consists of 900 pages and sells for $120. Wayland schools, due to the large number of pages, is sold in two volumes, 1937-1959 and 1960-1972.
Annuals from other consolidated high schools include Dunbar, Maytown, Martin, Auxier, Betsy Layne, McDowell, Prestonsburg, Wheelwright. Grade schools include Allen, Bosio, David, Drift, Harold Melvin, and Weeksbury. Mrs. Porter, personally, found it quite enjoyable to see how her father and other family members looked, when they were freshmen back in the 1930s and 1940s.
If you've lost your school annuals to flood, fire, or one of your siblings, now is the time to replace them. This is a very nice collection.
