Reader Queries

Each month, The Kentucky Explorer magazine receives literally scores of letters from our faithful readers. Among those letters we often find queries, ranging from requests for words to songs and poems to trying to locate former classmates and military buddies of long ago.

Here are a few queries from our March 2002 issue:

Howlett Family Photos

Dear Editor:

I would like to ask your readers' help in finding a photo of my mom and her siblings, made at the Pottertown School in Calloway County, Kentucky. This photo would have been taken in the early 1900s, probably between 1903 and 1906 or later. The family may have attended (later) the Temple Hill, Maple Spring, or Sandy Hill schools.

Their names were Lola, Lily, Lula, and John Howlett. John Howlett was crippled.

I would like to correspond with anyone who is interested in the Barnett family. Our family line includes James, John, Nathaniel L., Nathaniel T., and William George Barnett. Also, if anyone has any photos of older Barnett family members, I would like to hear from them.

Any photos would be appreciated. Photos made on a copy machine would be great. I will be glad to pay for any pictures.

Thanks for such a great magazine.

Needs Photos For Research

Dear Editor:

In my research I need photographs of the tombstone for Benjamin F. Agee in Section 5, Grave #730, Lebanon National Cemetery, Lebanon, Kentucky; and Raven's Rock at Portsmouth, Ohio.

I would be happy to pay the postage and any film development costs for these photos.

Seeks Stories/Photos On Kentucky Lynchings

Dear Editor:

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading this magazine.

I am an historian interested in stories and photos of lynchings that occurred in Boyle, Casey, Lincoln, Marion, Russell, Adair, Pulaski, and Taylor counties during the period of 1865-1940.

If any of your readers have any of these materials, please contact me. I'd like to talk with you.
