This photo was taken at Quicksand, Breathitt County, Kentucky, ca. 1905. Back row, l-r: Mattie Back and Julie Back. Middle row, l-r: Burnham Back, Miles Back, and Minerva Back (Herbert's mother). Front row, l-r: Troy Back, Wilgus Back, and Rodney Back. Miles Back (1853 - 1940) built the first house at Quicksand, Kentucky, in 1896. He acquired a lot of land. He sold many acres to the lumber industry in the early 1900s. He once owned the land where the Robinson Experimental Station is now located. Miles was married three times: 1st, Clementine Spurlock; 2nd, Priscilla Keith; and 3rd, Nora Watson. Miles was the father of 22 children. See photo on next page.
