CCC CAMPS - LIFE ON THE INSIDE: The pay was $30.00 a month. Five dollars were given to the recruit, and a check for the remaining $25.00 dollars was sent home to the boys' parents each month. The work consisted of reforestation, road building, trash removal, dam and lake construction, and any other conservation work that was needed in the area. In this photo of a CCC camp out West, young Kentuckians prepare to head out for the day's tasks. Many of these young men came from Breathitt and Wolfe counties, ca. 1938.
