West Point, from Fort Duffield Sentry Post

Fort Duffield was active all through the war. There were no battles or skirmishes on the hill, except for one. It was the first night of encampment at the fort. A sentinel claimed he saw something by a stump, aimed his gun, and began firing. It turned out to be nothing but an axe handle sticking out of a tree stump. This was the view of West Point in May 1999 from the sentry's lookout position at Fort Duffield. The only human casualty: a sergeant ripped the seat of his britches.
